Sherpa Adventure Gear was originally created as a tribute to the unsung heroes of Everest, the Sherpa. We focus on Nepali and Himalayan patterns as we continue to honour our founding vision and take inspiration from the rich heritage and history of our birthplace – Nepal.

To this day we work with our founding Sherpa family, and with female knitting co-operatives in Kathmandu and nearby villages to craft pieces like our handmade hats and headbands

From our work with Room to Read funding education for Nepali children, to championing Nepali artistry, to using responsibly produced materials; our missions and values are infused with the values of the people and the land in which our story began.

Our Pattern Selection

Our designers put a great deal of thought and care into their designs, so we’ve put this guide together to give you an insight into the tapestry of stories behind this season’s stand-out styles.

Padma ‘Lotus’ and Neha Collections

Padma means ‘Lotus’ in Nepali. Lotus flowers hold deep meanings within Nepali culture. These flowers hold symbolic resonance within Hinduism and Buddhism, the two largest religions of Nepal. Lotus flowers have in part inspired the floral and leafy designs found in our Padma and Neha collections for their connection with Nepali culture. The lotus flower also holds secular symbolism of resilience and perseverance as their beautiful flowers grow from murky waters.

Neha is a name rooted in the Sanskrit language, symbolising love, tenderness, and affection. It carries a sense of warmth and emotional connection. In Nepali culture, names hold significant meaning, with Neha imbuing a sense of universal care and love.

Within these collections are three new distinct prints:

Toile

Our toile print takes its inspiration from the Nepalese architecture and landscape, featuring the vibrant hub of local culture, community and religion in Patan Durbar Square, the Hindu temple in Janakpur and the village of Dho Tarap.

Gurans

Gurans is the Nepali word for the rhododendron, a flower that grows in the hills and mountains of Nepal. In Nepali culture, gurans is often seen as a symbol of natural beauty and the country’s rich Himalayan landscape

Indreni

Indreni means rainbow in Nepali and is often seen in Nepali culture as a symbol of hope, peace, and new beginnings after rain.

Tarcho Collection

The Tarcho Collection takes its inspiration from the prayer flags that can be found strung along mountain ridges and hold a significant cultural meaning throughout Nepal. The prayer flags are made of 5 colours, blue, white, red, green and yellow – each one representing an element and it is believed that the right balance of each of these will bring goodwill and blessings. When these flags blow in the wind, the goodwill and blessings are released into the atmosphere and spread.

Ravi Shirt

Inspired by Nepali architecture and landscape, the Ravi Shirt features culturally significant locations such as Patan Durbar Square – one of the three royal Durbar Squares in Kathmandu valley. It is a location well known for local culture, community and religious gatherings. Another building shown is the Hindu temple in Janakpur, it is one of the largest temples in Nepal with 60 rooms.

Inspired by Nepal’s unique landscape, the shirt also features a village called Dho Tarap in the Dolpo district, known for its traditional stone houses and its high altitude.

Marigold T-Shirt

Marigolds are flowers in Nepal that are highly valued for cultural and religious reasons. These bright orange and yellow flowers represent vitality, purity, and prosperity. They are often used for garlands and decorations during festivals and also act as a natural insect repellent.

Symbolising the sun, passion and creativity and are often used in wedding ceremonies to represent the strengthening of bonds. They are regarded in Nepal as a symbol of energy and enthusiasm and used to welcome guests. The marigold holds significant cultural meaning, which is captured in our collection of marigold-inspired T-shirts.

Rhododendron T-Shirt

The rhododendron is Nepal’s national flower and an important cultural and ecological symbol in the country. Blooming in vibrant reds, pinks and whites, the flower is a symbol of Nepal’s beauty, resilience and cultural heritage.

These flowers thrive at high altitudes and are valued for their medicinal properties, traditionally being used to treat various illnesses. Inspired by this heritage, our Rhododendron T-shirts reflect the natural vibrancy and spirit of this iconic flower.
