At first I wasn’t sure: I’m a 5’10” tall 61 year old woman and I was concerned it would be too small. Well, the neck was smaller than I expected, but once on, it’s perfect. I like the extra warm on my chest. It covers my hips too. Perfect for working in my third floor studio.
I bought this poncho to leave at school for dismissal duty on days that turned cold. But, I have yet to leave it at school, because I always want to wear it home -- and everywhere else!
I love that I can throw it on over anything without having to worry about long sleeves or bulky sweaters bunching up underneath it. It's not too tight, but tight enough to keep me warm and not loose enough to blow up and let cold air in underneath.
An unexpected bonus was that, while it's not exactly waterproof, it kept me warm and dry for 30 minutes in a light rain last week.
And I've gotten LOTS of compliments every time I've wirn it.
Features are exactly as described and I am thrilled. I wore it on our coldest morning on the year as I walked in the woods. It was perfect in every way. Protected from the drizzle and the wind in such a natural way.
This is my go to poncho when it is cold! This is such a great poncho to throw on over a thermal or t-shirt and you are always ready for the day. You can easily snuggle up at home or go ice skating. Regardless of your adventure you are ready to go! The pattern is beautiful and I have gotten tons of compliments when I wear it out on the town.
85cm long, including tassels
This is a very good quality poncho hand-knitted using a slightly coarse, thick and very warm heavyweight lambswool. It can feel slightly prickly or itchy against the neck which is easily overcome by wearing a fleece with a collar beneath or a buff.
It's very easy to wear and so warm - just pull it over the head and feel as though you're wrapped in a thick, warm, snuggly blanket. It's perfect for lounging on the sofa indoors or around a bonfire outdoors on the coldest night (mine was tested in snow). Being fairly rugged, rather than a fashion item, it's ideal for outdoor wear, leisurely walks and days out, can withstand a light shower is quite rugged and will last for many years.
I'm a slim size 12 and find the size very comfortable. It doesn't feel as though it's hanging loose, isn't baggy and isn't constrictive either. The hood is a generous size and the patterned edging can be rolled back if preferred.
Obviously, it isn't ideal for daily wear eg for doing housework and isn't the most practical design for undertaking daily tasks but it is a delightfully snuggly warm layer for walking outdoors or lounging in cold weather and it's hand-washable.
I like the ethics behind the poncho too: it is hand-knitted in Nepal by co-operatives of women gathering in villages, creating jobs and bringing money into their communities. Also, Sherpa donates 25 cents from every item sold towards education of children in the Nepalese mountains.
A recommended purchase from an ethical company.
