This jacket is awesome. I’ve used it on whiteout days where you can’t see 10 feet in front of you; It will keep you dry and cozy! The metal zippers are huge for me, as those are usually the first pieces of a jacket to wear out. The zippers on this thing are burly, and have big enough tabs to use while you’re wearing gloves. I love the color, material, fit — In my opinion, you can’t buy a better shell for the money!
Design wise this jacket is great. Unfortunately it doesn’t keep me dry for very long in moderate rain. Especially the arms start to get wet very soon. Furthermore I recommend to buy one size up. I usually wear size L but should have bought xl since it is very short. In contrast to all the good reviews from my personal experience I would not recommend this for demanding outdoor trekking, climbing, etc.
I bought an older version of this shell on clearance while on a trip in Oregon before an ascent of Mt Hood. The jacket performed exactly how I had hoped. Since then, I have been climbing and touring in all the various weather conditions that Ak has to offer. The Lithang continually kept me dry in wet and windy conditions and down to -30F (with other layers on underneath of course). While on a snowmachine trip, I attempted to tighten the hood down with the horizontal pullcord. The cord broke off from where it was attached to the brim of the hood (inside two layers of Sherpa's Himaltec fabric). I contacted the company as soon as I returned from my trip and they worked with me till we discovered the failure was truly a warranty issue. They happily sent me a replacement which is the most current version of the jacket. I'm extremely satisfied with Sherpa's costumer service. I'm very excited to check out the new shell they sent me. The newest features appear to be updated zippers, massive internal pockets that will be perfect for climbing skins/goggles, and an updated design for the hood cinch system... I doubt I will be having the same warranty issue again with the way they redesigned the pullcords. Needless to say, I will certainly do my best to repair the old jacket so I can get some more use out of it. Thanks for the awesome jackets Sherpa!
Just purchased so I have not been able to put it through all its paces, but initial impressions are very favorable. First, it is a very good looking jacket and has the look and feel of a high quality jacket. The trims add to the look. I am 5'8 180 lbs and between sizes per their guide. I went bigger to size large and it fits perfect for layers. Added at down midlayer and the jacket fit well with full freedom of movement. Wore that layering system through a snow storm and I was dry and warm and as I heard up the pit zipper dumped my excess heat. Have not used the hood with or without helmet to comment.
Overall, this jacket is what I expected and look forward to using it. The purchase experience was seamless and the customer service was great. I would definitely recommend looking into Sherpa gear particularly the lithang jacket
