This Spring, we are honouring the sacred Sarus Crane and its home in Lumbini, Nepal. This auspicious bird nests in the wetlands of Lumbini - the Buddha’s birthplace - as well as in other areas of the western Terai region of Nepal.
Lumbini is an area of unique cultural, spiritual, historical and ecological importance – a crossroads in which there must be a delicate harmony for the Sarus Crane to be able to thrive in its natural environment. Consequently, the Sarus Crane is considered a vulnerable species and a symbol of the necessary balance between the natural world and human impact.
