Dawa Yangzum Sherpa is the only female climber from the Rowaling Valley, home to more than 70 other noted climbers and summiteers. She has been a frequent competitor in Ultra Marathons, including the 350 km Everest Sky race, and has worked as a trekking guide since 2007. Dawa began climbing in 2009. Since then, she has already summited Mt. Everest, Yala Peak (twice), Island Peak (three times), Chiki-Go, and Ama Dablam, as well as making successful ascents on Mt. Rainier and the Grand Tetons. On July 24th, 2014, she and Pasang Lhamu were two of the first women to climb K2.
In her quest to encourage other Nepali female climbers, Dawa’s current challenge is to become the first Asian woman UIAGM and IFMGA guide.
